Costa Rica- Day 6, Tuesday April 21st

We set an alarm to wake up at 7:00am, however, we wake up easily without it. The bed is pretty uncomfortable and the air is hot and sticky. After a quick breakfast of fruit and more fruit, we set off for a 3 hour horseback riding tour. The co-owner of our lodging, Suzanna, is our guide. Once again, Tommy and I are the only 2 tourists on this tour (as we were on Kayaking and the Night Bug Tour).
The night before Suzanna asked Tommy and I how comfortable we are riding horses so she can plan ahead with the horse farm. I don't think my past experience on tours in Tahiti and Jamaica account for much. So I tell Suzanna that I'm a beginner. Tommy says that he's an intermediate. That morning, as we walk down to the beach to saddle up, we come upon the 3 horses and I can immediately guess which one is mine. Two of the horses are strapping brown and black horses that have shiny coats and confident stances. The third is a smaller white and grey horse with several scars and a bored look on its face.

Hello, Jingle.
I love animals and have so much empathy for them, that as soon as I sit down on Jingle's saddle I inexplicably start to feel bad for her. So when she decides that she wants to take it slow and stay about 30 feet behind Tommy and Suzanna, I don't argue.

Yup, that's us waaaaaay back there.
Ok, that's a little better. Thanks for waiting, Guys!
The tour was amazing. As you can see, we began riding down the beach. Then we turned off and went down a quiet path, through trees, past some small homes and farms.

Then we approached a tiny town and stopped at the store for a drink break. Thank goodness, because my butt was really starting to hurt!

A nearby Starfruit Tree. I felt a little nostalgic because my mom puts them in all of her fruit salads so I had to take a picture!
Right next to the store was this church. It was actually in session and we could hear them singing inside.

Once we finished our drinks, we saddled up again and continued on. The rest of the tour was on pretty difficult terrain-- we went up and down a lot of hills. If Susanna would instruct her horse to gallop, the other 2 would break into a gallop, as well (yes, believe it or not-- if I gave the slightest little click with my tongue, Jingle would actually pick up the pace). It was fun at first, but galloping is really tough on the bum! I actually preferred running better-- that was more exciting and a much smoother ride!
This was overall, a really cool tour. I felt like we did some real riding and saw a good portion of the area.
The rest of the day Tommy and I just relaxed and enjoyed hanging around Pirate Cove.
